Located in the northern part of Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche is one of the 33 Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. Estates with major holdings in the vineyard include Domaine Ponsot, Domaine Armand Rousseau and Domaine Dujac, which owns 1.46 hectares of vines. 2011 was a particularly good vintage for the Domaine, which produced red wines with clear focus, balance and structure.

Good dark red. Musky, peppery aromas of red cherry, rose petal and underbrush. Silky, rich and fine-grained, with ineffable flavors of red berries, cherry, peppery herbs and spices spreading out to saturate the palate without leaving any impression of weight. Wonderfully suave, energetic wine with outstanding complexity and finishing breadth. This wine was going through an awkward stage when I tried it from barrel a year ago but has turned into a swan.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There are discernable, quite potent stem-like scents on the nose of Dujac’s Clos de la Roche: clearly some whole bunch here but it is not fully integrated at present. Still, there is admirable intensity and it remains fresh and interesting. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins on the entry. The acidity is well judged, although the saline finish feels a little astringent and green at the moment. This probably needs more time to harmonize and coalesce.Neal Martin30th November 2014

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
