Climens 1983 is a mature-vintage sweet wine from the Sauternes region of Bordeaux in south-west France. Château Climens is a Premier Cru Classé Sauternes producer and one of the leading producers of sweet wine in Bordeaux. Produced from 100% Semillon from vineyards in the Barsac appellation, Climens Sauternes is fermented in barrel and aged in barriques (30% new) for 22 months. Renowned for its elegance, finesse and profound longevity (good vintages can age well for comfortably more than 50 years), Château Climens pairs spectacularly well with Roquefort-type cheeses and foie gras. "Tasted at Chateau Climens. A lucid golden colour. The nose is a little tight at first and demands some coaxing from the glass. It does not quite have the same clarity as the sublime ’86. mango, quince, hot buttered toast and a touch of lanolin. Complex, but more introverted than expected. The palate is powerful and deep with joyful citrus fruits on the entry, Seville orange, apricot and mango with a chalky texture on the finish. An intriguing Climens – great length with a touch of marmalade on the aftertaste." Wine Advocate, 2009

The 1983 Climens has a lucid golden colour. The bouquet is initially backward and finally offers attractive scents of freshly sliced mango, quince and lanolin. Very complex. The palate is powerful and concentrated with effervescent fruit: Seville orange, apricot and mango with a nice bitter edge on the finish. Great length with hints of marmalade lingering on the aftertaste. This is a beautiful Climens. Tasted at Château Climens. Neal Martin18th August 2022
