Clerc-Milon 2012 is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Encompassing 41 hectares of vineyards in the northeastern part of Pauillac, Château Clerc-Milon occupies a position between the Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild estates, situated atop a crest with a commanding view of the Gironde estuary. The soil composition consists of sandy clay overlaying a base of clay-limestone, and the gentle slope aids in effective drainage. This is the 2012 grand vin from the property, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere. "This is another strong effort from the Mouton Rothschild stable and its excellent administrator Philippe Dhalluin. The 2012 Clerc Milon has an almost blackish-blue opaque colour, soft tannins, ripe notes of blackcurrants, liquorice and subtle background oak. There is an attractive floral, liquorice quality to the fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied and beautifully pure with ripe tannin. It is soft enough to be approachable in several years and should drink well for 20." Robert Parker, 2015

The 2012 Clerc Milon is a little musty on the nose and lacks the delineation of its peers. Black fruit, touches of bell pepper and spices, then after 10 minutes, almost Grenache-like. The palate is sweet on the entry with a pastille-like red fruit, fine acidity, a little chewy and just missing some tension and precision towards its Saint-Julien like finish. A second bottle at Bordeaux Index's tasting demonstrated a little more tension, though I still feel that this is just lagging behind its peers.
