Château Clerc-Milon 2006 is a full-bodied red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Clerc-Milon is a Fifth Growth property owned by the Baron Philippe de Rothschild family (who also own Château Mouton Rothschild and Château d’Armailhac). Clerc Milon`s vineyards neighbour those of the First Growths Mouton and Lafite, and are planted with about 50%Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. "Tasted at Bordeaux Index`s annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Chateau Clerc-Milon has a very respectable bouquet. red fruit rather than black, laced with tobacco, woodland and dried herbs aromas, quite Saint Julien-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, succulent opening. blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with salt and a dash of white pepper that leave the mouth tingling on the Merlot-driven finish." Bright ruby-red. Expressive aromas of currant, tobacco, graphite, herbs, roast coffee and smoky oak. Supple, solid and broad, with a mouthfilling fleshiness leavened by good energy and vinosity. There's a medicinal reserve to the redcurrant and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes broad and long, with substantial dusty tannins and very good length. A more muscular style than Armailhac, also from the team at Mouton-Rothschild, and in need of at least five years of cellaring.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2009

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot.Crimson with quite a pale rim. Some absolutely top quality oak here on the nose and quite a bit of ripe flavour though not the most intense fruit. Lovely opulence and gentle texture on the mid palate – definite inkiness on the finish but wonderfully soothing on the palate up to then. Only light to mid weight but much plusher than Armailhac, for instance. Austerity on the very very end but hugely flattering and carefully made up to that point. Presumably this went into barrel relatively early? (JR)
