Vinous
The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a complex bouquet, again, with mainly yellow fruit, honeysuckle and lanolin notes, perhaps a little more evolved than I would like at this early stage in its life. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry, which is powerful but needs more acidity on the finish. As such, it just lacks the flair and the complexity you would expect from a Chevalier-Montrachet. This is a disappointing showing after it shone from barrel, and I will defer scoring it based on this bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin9th July 2024

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
