Chevalier-Montrachet Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey 2015 is a Grand Cru Chardonnay from the esteemed Montrachet vineyard in Burgundy. Sourced from 60-year-old vines planted in steep limestone soils, this wine emerged from a warm 2015 vintage. The wine displays a profile marked by yellow peach, lemon zest and almond notes. Known for his minimalist approach, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey utilised large oak barrels to ensure the preservation of the wine’s natural acidity and mineral character. Its dense, oily texture complements a distinct flinty reduction, while the finish reveals a saline quality and notable complexity, affirming its place as a premier example of white Burgundy.

Pale, bright yellow. Pure, backward nose is more precise and higher pitched than the Bâtard, offering scents of tangerine zest, crushed rock and silex minerality. Boasts an uncommon combination of thickness with verve. Not heavy but incredibly opulent in the mouth, with its citrus and fresh herb flavors supported by bracing minerality. A wonderfully intense, seamless wine of terroir, and a step above the other 2015s I tasted at this address. Really superb palate-staining length. Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
