Domaine Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet 2022 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru climat of Chevalier-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Michel Niellon is a 7.5-hectare domaine currently run by Michel Coutoux. The domaine`s Chevalier-Montrachet comes from a 0.23ha parcel of vines in the heart of the cru, with Domaine Leflaive`s plots located on either side. "The vines were planted in 1962 and 1968. Pale to mid lemon in colour. A light reduction on the nose. The limestone is close to the surface on the nose, a little biscuit note, this is discreet but evidently with a fine tensile strength. Just leave this the time to blossom and it will become a really fine example." Jasper Morris MW, 2023

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from vines planted in 1961 or 1962 and comprises of five barrels this year (two new). It has a crisp, intense bouquet. Crushed limestone, red apples and a touch of beeswax appear on the nose. Later, almond and white peach aromas lend more complexity. The palate is nicely balanced with real weight and density on the entry, though the acidity is finely tuned and maintains tension and poise. There is impressive salinity on the finish as it fans out gloriously; this wonderful Chevalier should mature extremely well in bottle. Neal Martin17th July 2024
