Michel Niellon alongside son-in-law Michel Coutoux and grandson Matthieu Bresson is surely making some of the finest white wines in the Côte de Beaune. The 2012 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a 0.23-hectare parcel of vines planted in 1962. This is an excellent release that is ideal for drinking now.

Vinous
Bright, pale green-yellow. Aromas of peach, yellow plum, menthol and crushed stone. At once tactile and juicy but initially imploded, showing lovely subtle saline minerality to the peach and spice flavors. With time in the glass, this grand cru revealed building sweetness and a more pliant texture. Finishes with subtle lingering perfume. Michel Coutoux feels that these 2012s are generous and open now (the opposite of 2013) but I feel there's more to come here.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2014
