This is a relatively hard-to-find mature example of Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru from Domaine Etienne Sauzet. In 1996, Gérard Boudot who had inherited the estate from his father-in-law, did not own any parcels in this revered Grand Cru and so this cuvée was made entirely from purchased wine. It was aged for 14 months on lees in 50% new oak. 1996 was a very good vintage for white Burgundy and this should be approaching full maturity.

Vinous
Extravagant aromas of pear, menthol, minerals and smoked meat. Intensely flavored but silky and suave, with a firm edge of acidity providing focus and grip. A rather feminine grand cru, especially for the vintage, and not at all a blockbuster. Very long, subtle, stony finish.Stephen Tanzer1st September 1998
