Chevalier-Montrachet Domaine Leflaive 2010 is a Grand Cru Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune. Chevalier-Montrachet is arguably the most mineral-driven of the Grand Crus in Puligny-Montrachet, and the 2010 vintage provides a level of purity and focus that is rare. It features a complex nose of lemon zest, crushed chalk, white flowers and toasted nuts. The palate is precise, tense and layered, with a long, saline finish that defines the unique, stony character of this legendary vineyard site.

(bottled two weeks before my tasting): Bright pale yellow. Very pure, chalky aromas of lemon, lime, white flowers and iodine. Boasts outstanding tension and building intensity to its powerful lemon peel, pineapple and crushed stone flavors. Rare precision and inner-mouth perfume here. Saturates every square millimeter of the palate yet finishes with an impression of weightlessness. A wine of great finesse, this should go on for two decades or more. The Batard is for the body while this is for the spirit, notes winemaker Eric Remy. One of my favorite wines of the vintage.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2012

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
