With Brice de la Morandière at the helm, Domaine Leflaive is one of the most highly-acclaimed estates in Burgundy. It incorporates 22ha of vineyards, including an envy-inducing 10ha of Premiers Crus and 5ha of prized Grands Crus. Under the stewardship of the late Anne-Claude Leflaive, the domaine became a pioneer in biodynamic farming in the region, achieving full conversion in 1997.

The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is produced from 3 parcels totalling 1.8ha that were planted between 1955 and 1980. All fruit is hand-harvested and sorted, followed by fermentation in mostly seasoned oak casks and maturation for 12 months. Once again, the 2018 release is a stunning effort that seamlessly combines immense concentration of fruit with wonderful texture, freshness and energy. A classic in the making.

Vinous
The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has an intense bouquet of lemon thyme, crushed limestone, and traces of orange pith and citrus peel that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is underpinned with a fine, almost razor-sharp bead of acidity. There is a wonderful crescendo of flavor here, leading to a multifaceted, lemongrass-tinged finish that lingers with a saline aftertaste. This is sheer class, a tremendous Chevalier-Montrachet.Neal Martin1st January 2020

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
