Deep bright orange. Apricot liqueur and candied yellow fruits dominate the nose; a bit exotic for my taste. A rather powerful, even slightly aggressive wine with a strong fruit syrup quality and an exotic note of roasted oatmeal. For all its ripeness, there's no easy sweetness showing today; in fact, this intense wine conveys a slightly bitter impression of concentration. The harvest in 1991 was carried out in a very short period with a large team of pickers, noted Morandière. (14.1% alcohol; 3.26 pH; the Chevalier-Montrachet was picked on October 4, following heavy rainfall at the end of September)Stephen Tanzer1st September 2019

Domaine Leflaive

The pinnacle of Puligny-Montrachet

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
