Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most consistent growers and négociants in Burgundy, offering a vast portfolio of wines – from easy-drinking, accessible Bourgogne to complex, age-worthy Grand Cru expressions. The company is today run by Pierre-Henri Gagey, assisted by head winemaker Frédéric Barnier. Chevalier-Montrachet ‘Les Demoiselles’ hails from a 0.5-hectare vineyard situated at the summit of the slope where the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet converge. The Jadot family bought back the vineyard in 1913 from two sisters and decided to name it ‘Les Demoiselles’. The Maison only produces limited quantities of this Grand Cru, which are highly sought-after.

The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru lacks definition on the nose, almost smudged at first, with traces of oxidation. The palate is sour on the entry, has modest weight and is a bit clumsy on the mid-palate, especially when compared to its peers. It is disappointing, given the class, mainly because of some drying oak on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. - Neil Martin
17.5 Jancis Robinson
Cask sample. Smells both luxuriously deep – creamy, leesy, oatmeal – and intensely fresh. Not quite as deep as I expected on the palate. Balanced, full of citrus, very pure, and builds in the mouth. Very long finish. (JH)

The very essence of Burgundy

Louis Jadot was established in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis in 1859. Over the last 165 years the company maintained exceptional quality of its wines through the steady acquisition of the best vineyards in Burgundy and now produce wines from over 150 appellations.

Jadot owns almost 125ha of vineyards in the Côte d’Or and more than 298 vineyard parcels sites including 14 Grand Cru and 74 Premier Cru. Within the last decade Domaine Louis Jadot vineyards around Beaune have been managed following organic principles and are in the process of organic certification for the 2024 vintage.

From vineyard to bottle, sustainability is a core part of their approach. Since 2019, all Domaine Louis Jadot vineyards have the High Environmental Value level 3 certification. This is a voluntary approach which aims to identify and promote particularly environmentally-friendly practices applied by farmers. It covers biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertiliser use and management of water.
