Alain makes just two barrels of this magnificent grand cru. Rich and intense with great concentration of flavour. Drinking beautifully now.
Vinous
The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is (as usual) an exchange of juice with Jean-Michel Chartron - one barrel for two barrels of Folatières and three barrels of Puligny Villages. It has a clean, precise bouquet, cold, wet limestone intermingling with citrus lemon and subtle smoky aromas. Not intense, but very focused. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, and then the purity takes over – and boy, this is a very pure Chevalier-Montrachet, offering lemon curd, peach skin, pineapple and crushed stone notes. It feels very long but at the same time quite tender. A lovely Chevalier-Montrachet from Chavy. Neal Martin1st January 2020

World Class White Burgundy

The Chavy family has been a fixture in Puligny-Montrachet for more than two centuries. The son of Gérard Chavy, Alain established his own domaine in 2003, when his family’s vineyards were split between him and his brother, Jean-Louis.

Domaine Alain Chavy comprises about 10ha of vineyards in and around Puligny. In addition to several well-located village parcels, Alain owns plots in the prestigious Premiers Crus of Les Folatières, Les Champs Gain, Les Pucelles and Les Clavoillons. These are complemented by several small holdings in neighbouring Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault.

At six metres deep Alain’s underground cellar is the deepest in the village, ensuring a cool environment in which his wines can ferment and mature very gradually. Alain practises low-intervention winemaking, with minimal bâttonage and sparing use of new oak allowing Puligny’s prized terroir to shine through in his famously elegant, mineral-driven Chardonnays.
