Cheval Blanc 2015 presents a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc, displaying a deep garnet hue. This vintage is marked by aromas of roses, spearmint and black tea. The flavour profile includes chocolate-covered cherries, redcurrant preserves and ripe plums, alongside a distinct mineral note reminiscent of iron ore. The full-bodied palate exhibits a structure of grainy tannins complemented by notable freshness. It`s worth noting that this vintage is particularly special, as quality was so high that every plot from the Cheval Blanc estate was selected for the Grand Vin. No Petit Cheval was produced.

This has depths that steal up on you, clinging on through the palate, dark fruit expression, cassis bud, blackcurrant puree, raspberry leaf and mandarin peel freshness, nuanced and gorgeous and hard to argue with. All the plots but two made it into the main wine in this vintage. 100% new oak, Pierre Lurton director. As an aside, it's wonderful tasting Cheval and Ausone in 2015, as both deliver such a clear imprint of their different locations in St Emilion, and both are exceptional wines.Jane Anson19th February 2025

The 2015 Cheval Blanc has an intriguing bouquet, one you have to really just sit and ponder for a couple of minutes, and I don't mean that in a negative way. It seems mercurial in the glass, especially when compared directly with the hedonistic 2015 Pavie. Scents of red berries, pencil shavings, cedar and light brown spice aromas emerge from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful balance, pliant tannins and perfectly judged acidity. This is very complex with the Cabernet Franc imparting subtle black pepper and clove notes, gaining intensity toward the superbly delineated finish. Classy and sophisticated, this is quintessential Cheval Blanc. Tasted at the 2015 Ten-Year-On tasting at Bordeaux Index. Neal Martin3rd June 2025

The Star of Saint-Émilion

With a history dating back as least as far as the 16th century, Château Cheval Blanc is considered by many to be one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. Located on the Right Bank in the celebrated Saint-Émilion appellation. One of only four wines to be ranked Premier Grand Cru Classé A in the classification of Saint-Émilion wine, the estate has three main soil types: clay, gravel and sand. Red grape plantings are made up of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and are used to produce wines with marvellous aromatics, with floral and smoky nuances, aged 100% in new oak.

In addition to the highly-coveted first wine, the estate produces a second red wine, Le Petit Cheval which made its first appearance in the 1988 vintage. A white wine, known as Le Petit Cheval Blanc, is also made, produced from predominantly Sauvignon Blanc together with a smaller percentage of Sémillon.
