Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenaches de Pierre 2012 is a full-bodied red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation of the southern Rhône Valley. A standout wine from Domaine Giraud, Grenaches de Pierre comes from pure sandy soils in Crau and Pignan. The 2012 is available here in magnum format. "The cream of the lineup, and possibly the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Grenaches de Pierre is an incredible effort that possesses notions of bouquet garni, pepper, licorice, cassis and crushed stone-like minerality. Full-bodied, powerful and layered, yet also elegant and with terrific intensity and depth, it too should be reasonably approachable in its youth and evolve gracefully for 15 years or more." Brilliant ruby-red. Fragrant, mineral-laced scents of ripe red fruits, olive paste and candied rose, along with notes of chalky minerals and garrigue. Taut, focused and spicy on entry, then fleshier and weightier in the mid-palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of anise. Closes gently tannic and very long, with resonating minerality and spiciness.
