Domaine La Barroche is a respected winery in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with a history that dates back to the 17th century. The Fiancée is a limited production cuvée made from a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes, sourced from old vines in the estate`s vineyards. The 2006 vintage was a solid year in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, producing balanced and elegant wines. On the nose, expect a captivating bouquet of ripe black and red fruits, such as blackberries, cherries, and raspberries, complemented by hints of violet, black pepper, and smoky, earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a refined balance of fruit, acidity and well-structured tannins.

(50% each of grenache and syrah) Deep ruby. Powerfully scented, youthfully brooding bouquet of kirsch, cassis, licorice and smoky minerals. Fresher red berries on the palate, with sweet notes of cola and anise; picks up a suave black raspberry quality that carries through the long, sappy finish. Harvest before the rains and hitting a whopping 16.2% alcohol, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Fiancee (an equal split of Grenache and Syrah) certainly has a modern flair, but is nevertheless a smoking effort that's loaded with notions of cassis, blackberry, truffle, olive tapenade and pepper. Big, voluptuous, concentrated and full-bodied, it's still young and unevolved, and will have more than two decades of overall longevity.Jeb Dunnuck14th September 2015
