Domaine de la Janasse, a family-owned estate located in the Rhône Valley`s Courthézon, just north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, has been crafting exceptional wines since 1967. Founded by Aimé Sabon, who took over his father’s vineyards, the estate has become a benchmark for Rhône wines. The 1998 vintage offers a beautifully balanced expression of Grenache, with ripe fruit notes complemented by earthy nuances and subtle spice. The wine`s structure reveals a harmonious blend of acidity and tannins, ensuring a long and complex evolution in the glass. This vintage is a captivating reflection of the estate’s commitment to quality and its unique terroir, making it a standout example of the Rhône Valley’s potential.

Full deep red. Bright but reticent aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and meat. Vibrant, intensely flavored and sharply delineated, with terrific depth and grip. Very ripe but firmly built. Perhaps more typical grenache than the '99, thanks to the great ripeness of the year. Finishes very long and subtle, with firm but sweet tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2001
