Established by Gaston Hochar in 1930. Chateau Musar is without doubt Lebanon`s top wine estate and their flagship red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault from vineyards in the Bekaa Valley and aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. The 1985 vintage is a well balanced red wine with elegant layers of mature fruit, with hints of cedar and vanilla followed by a smooth and spicy palate.

The 1985 Château Musar is served in a magnum, which apparently was kept for sale in Serge Hochar's home country of Lebanon, where this was bought. It's absolutely divine. It has a sweet aniseed-tinged bouquet with plenty of melted red fruit - maraschino cherries, crushed strawberry and an almost Burgundy-like allure. The palate is medium-bodied with plush red fruit, orange zest and peppermint, fleshy and harmonious, with a long and tender finish reminiscent of a Grenache. It's in a perfect place now. Wonderful. Tasted at Burns & German's dinner to celebrate The Complete Bordeaux Vintage Guide book at Medlar. Neal Martin26th December 2023
