Château Mercian Iwasaki Koshu 2022 is a medium-bodied, barrel-fermented white wine made from the indigenous Koshu grape. Founded in 1870, Château Mercian is Japan’s oldest winery and one of the leading producers of Koshu in the country. Koshu, a versatile grape variety known for producing delicate, aromatic wines, has been cultivated in Yamanashi Province for centuries, with references dating back to the 8th century. The 2022 vintage was fermented in barrels for around 14 days before being matured in barrel for a further 5 months. The wine displays aromas of yuzu and white flowers, with notes of vanilla, almonds, and hazelnuts on the palate.
