Chasse-Spleen 2001 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation of Bordeaux. Château Chasse-Spleen is a renowned winery situated in Moulis-en-Médoc, just west of Margaux, which has consistently held the reputation as the premier estate in this appellation. Acquired by Jacques Merlaut in 1976, it has been under the stewardship of his granddaughter, Céline Villars, since 2000. On the 2001 vintage. "Deepish crimson without that much development at the rim. Firm, zesty, almost orange peel nose and then fruit that is just starting to melt and mature. Firm and confident with appealing freshness. Just starting to drink well though it should have many years ahead of it." Jancis Robinson MW, 2010

Vinous
Good medium ruby. Pretty aromas of blackberry, cassis, violet and espresso. Fresh and penetrating, with moderate flesh and sweetness. Not quite green but a bit hard in the middle and firmly tannic on the finish. Aromatic in the mouth, but shows an edge of acidity on the end.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2002
