The 1982 Château Chasse Spleen is a blend of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, harvested in the heart of the AOC Moulis-en-Médoc. On the nose, the wine reveals an impressive bouquet of earthy notes, damp wood, mushrooms and a touch of vanilla. The palate is mature, with medium acidity, sweet tannins, and a velvety, balanced structure. Ripe red fruits are present, coated with spicy and tertiary notes such as leather, leading to a finish of remarkable length.
86 Robert Parker
The 1982 Chasse-Spleen has never been as impressive as the glorious series of wines made under the late Bernadette Villars between 1985 and 1990. Nevertheless, the 1982 continues to behave well, exhibiting plenty of ripe, spicy, curranty fruit in its moderately intense nose, medium body, sweet, expansive fruit, and an easy-going finish. It is fully mature, so why wait? It should continue to drink well for another 4-6+ years. Tasted 5 times since bottling with consistent notes. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
