Though only a mere Premier Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet ’Les Ruchottes’ is often considered the unofficial flagship wine of Domaine Ramonet having been the first plot of land purchased by founder, Pierre Ramonet, in 1926. He cleared the land by hand and brought in his first of sixty-five harvests in 1929. Still a parcel with some of the domaine’s oldest vines, this is usually a wonderfully rich yet tensile wine. Well-stored bottles of 1996 should still be drinking well.

Vinous
Subtle, highly aromatic nose of citrus oil, white flowers, truffle and mint. Intensely flavored and chewy with extract. The most complete of these '96s to this point in the way it combines flesh and backbone. Very strong, long aftertaste shows some spicy oak and an oily richness. As in most recent vintages, a premier cru to own.Stephen Tanzer1st September 1998
