Michel Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière 2015 is a Premier Cru Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. This walled portion of Les Chaumées sits on thin, limestone-heavy soils that impart a taut structural identity despite the solar intensity of the 2015 vintage. Winemaking remains traditional at this family estate, utilising gentle pneumatic pressing and fermentation in French oak barrels, of which approximately 20 to 25% are new. This bottling exhibits the Niellon signature of weightless concentration, where ripe stone fruit and acacia notes intersect with a distinct crushed-rock minerality. The 2015 vintage displays a broader textural profile than cooler years, yet it maintains the necessary acidity to balance its natural richness. High-toned citrus oils and toasted hazelnut dominate the mid-palate, leading into a finish defined by persistence and a subtle saline grip.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées displayed an austerity in the same vein as the Maltoie, yet one senses more intention here. Gut instinct says that this just needs bottle age to show what it can do. The palate seems to confirm that. It delivers the energy of the Vergers on the entry, the acidity finely tuned and it gently builds towards an refined, lightly spiced finish that feels very natural, a saline note lingering on the aftertaste. This is a very fine Chassagne-Montrachet that should yield several years of pleasure.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière 1er Cru has a pleasant reduction on the nose that will require a couple of years in bottle to sort out, but there is clearly concentrated fruit underneath. The palate is well balanced, offering a fresh, slightly saline opening, well integrated oak and a vivacious, citrus-driven finish. This is a well-crafted Chassagne-Montrachet.
