Domaine Blain-Gagnard was established in the 1980s by Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard, combining their respective family vineyards to create the estate. It is currently owned and managed by their daughter, Sarah Blain, who took over the reins from her parents. This release comes from Les Caillerets, one of the leading Premier Cru climats in the Chardonnay-producing appellation of Chassagne. ‘Cailleret’ is a reference to the pebbles (‘cailloux’ in French) that are particularly prevalent here. The 2010 vintage in Burgundy was characterized by favourable weather conditions, resulting in wines with great balance and complexity.

Magnum. Real lift and life on the nose with a strong wet stony streak, and even an edge of Chablis-like wet wool. Still quite tight with a long finish that suggests there is much more development to come. (JR)Jancis Robinson25th July 2015
