Maison Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey was formed in 2005 by husband-and-wife team Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey, both children of high-profile winemakers. They produce up to eight Chassagne-Montrachet premier crus, including this ‘Les Baudines’, which lies at the highest point of the appellation at 315 metres altitude. The 2016 vintage suggests citrus oil, stone fruit, white flowers, matchstick and toasty oak. A classy expression despite a difficult vintage.

(this and the following '16s were bottled at the beginning of May, barely a month before my visit): Bright, light yellow. Pear, apple, wet stone and wild herbs on the nose. A step up in texture and density from the Saint-Aubin en Rémilly but quite backward and firm-edged today. In a distinctly savory style, but showed a creamier texture with aeration. Finishes savory and long, relying more on its minerality than its moderate acidity for balance. There was very little frost here and the fruit shows a more relaxed quality.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2018

Pierre-Yves Colin's 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines is another premier cru that seems a touch facile this year, revealing a pretty nose of roasted notes, ripe orchard fruit and peach pit, followed by a glossy, medium-bodied plate that's pretty and nicely balanced but lacks some concentration and depth.William Kelley29th June 2018

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
