Domaine Bernard Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet 2014 is a village Burgundy Chardonnay and represents one of the finest examples of the terroir of the appellation. Guided by organic farming in the vineyard and low-intervention principles in the cellar, Alex Moreau crafts barrel-aged Chardonnay`s of real distinction. Typically, the domaine`s wines are aged in French oak barrels (10%-50% new) for 12 to 20 months depending on the vineyard and vintage. This historic domaine was founded in 1809 by Auguste Moreau but it wasn`t until 1977 that its reputation was cemented under the leadership of Bernard Moreau (who, improbably, assumed that role at the tender age of 14). Bernard`s sons, Alex and Benoît, came onboard in the 1990s, and Alex is now in charge of winemaking and vineyard operations. "Utterly correct and approachable already but crystalline structure and no shortage of fruit. Very well done." Jancis Robinson MW, 2017

(this bottling, made from multiple parcels, including some stony plots near Puligny-Montrachet, represents 40% of the estate's production in 2014): Pale yellow. Pure aromas of pear, yellow peach and yellow flowers. Ripe, sweet and fine-grained, with captivating minerality giving lift to the middle palate and carrying the classically dry finish.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2016

The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has a well defined, precise, almost Puligny-like bouquet with hints of white peach and citrus lemon— precise and detailed—impressive for a village cru. The palate is well balanced, elegant and refined in the mouth, hints of apricot and peach filtering through, but it is really based on the tension and spiciness towards the finish. This is excellent.Neal Martin31st December 2015
