Domaine Bachelet-Monnot was founded in 2005 by brothers Alex and Mark Bachelet and, in a relatively short space of time, they have cemented their reputation as two of Burgundy’s finest talents. Working with around 22ha of vines across the Côte de Beaune, they are quietly turning out some of the best value wines in the region and this wonderful Chassagne-Montrachet is a fine example. Rich, round and layered, this is archetypal Chassagne executed to perfection.

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is showing very well after bottling. It has a reassuringly complex, involving bouquet with scents of white flowers, honeysuckle and light menthol aromas that are, frankly, Premier Cru in quality. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity and very pure and refined, showing good depth and freshness toward the long, saline finish. I think this is one of the few cuvées from Bachelet-Monnot that will surpass the 2018. Neal Martin1st January 2020

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Village offers up notes of honeyed peach, orchard fruit, spices and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, tangy and tight-knit, with appealing purity and a stony finish. This will likely flesh out with further élevage and land at the upper end of my bracketed score.William Kelley31st January 2019

Rising Stars

Founded by rising stars Marc and Alexandre Bachelet in 2005, Domaine Bachelet Monnot manage 10 hectares of vines in the communes in Maranges, Santenay and Puligny-Montrachet. The focus is on traditional techniques, terroir-led winemaking - 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru wines, but employed to a lesser extent for Premier Cru and Village-level wines.

Key vineyards for Bachelet Monnot in Maranges are La Fussière, which they produce in both red and white, and Clos de la Boutière. In Puligny-Montrachet, Marc and Alexandre produce Premier Crus Les Referts and Folatières along with Grand Crus Bienvenues-Bâtard Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet.
