Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye de Morgeot 2016 is a white Burgundy produced from the Premier Cru climat of Abbaye de Morgeot in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. PYCM is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery in Chassagne-Montrachet, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d`Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist. no battonage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board. "Creamy and a touch of orange pith on the nose. Rich and quite open on the nose, then more spice and salinity/minerality on the palate. More volume in the mouth than in Les Ancegnières, more power and drive but still pulls in to a long finish with just a gentle creaminess to the texture to clothe the arrow-like freshness. Has both intensity and elegance. Amazing length with beauty and freshness." Jancis Robinson MW, 2017
Vinous
(only 10% of the crop was lost to frost): Pale yellow. Chassagne-typical aromas and flavors of pear and flowers. Supple and dense, showing lovely spicy lift. Best today on the firm, rising, aromatic finish, which displays a dusty, positive bitterness and lingering notes of pear, crushed stone and minerals. This is 12.3% natural alcohol; Colin told me he only chaptalized in 2016 when the fruit came in below 12%.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2017

Perhaps the 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot just wasn't showing well when I tasted it from barrel, but despite its attractive bouquet of lime, dried white flowers, toasted nuts and beeswax, it appears to lack some depth and intensity. Well-balanced and beautifully made, I suspect these 15-year-old vines simply struggled to recover from the challenges of the growing season.William Kelley29th June 2018

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
