Denis Bachelet is a boutique domaine that has created a loyal following around its small-production wines. Based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate comprises 3.99 hectares of vineyards across different appellations. This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is made from very old vines planted from 1907 to 1917. The 1993 vintage is now a fully evolved wine, with lovely tertiary notes of autumnal red fruits and very soft tannins.

The 1993 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the finest that Denis Bachelet made in that era. It has a crystalline bouquet with unprecedented mineralité and transparency, subtle marine scents (kelp?) percolating through the red fruit. The palate is defined by the filigree tannins, supple and lithe in the mouth, ineffably harmonious with a sustained and energetic finish. It epitomises the brilliance of both Bachelet and this growing season. Tasted at Quality Chop House restaurant in London. Neal Martin1st May 2019

Very pretty, Drunk in too dark a setting to check the colour but this is fully evolved with tertiary aromas of autumnal red fruits and hardly any perceptible tannins. Acidity level is just-so. A great pleasure even if not that intense. (JR)Jancis Robinson15th October 2015
