Denis Bachelet is a relatively small domaine that has created a loyal following around its small-production wines. Based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, the estate comprises 3.99 hectares of vineyards across different appellations. This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is made from very old vines planted from 1907 to 1917. Grapes are entirely destemmed, and fermentation uses only natural yeasts. The wine is then aged in oak for up to 18 months before bottling.

Vinous
The 1990 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has appeared three or four times and testifies some bottle variation. This has a more fruit-driven bouquet compared to other vintages with copious raspberry and wild strawberry scents, pressed rose petal and orange pith, veins of blue fruit emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of red fruit, texturally showing more corpulence than the 1988 or 1993, traces of iodine towards the finish and like before, orange de sanguine lingering on the aftertaste. Superb. Tasted at The Ledbury restaurant in London. Neal Martin1st May 2019
