Serafin Charmes-Chambertin 1999 is a mature-vintage Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Charmes-Chambertin in the Gevrey-Chambertin commune of the Côte de Nuits. Sérafin Père et Fils is one of the leading wine producers in Gevrey-Chambertin. The Domaine was originally established in 1947 by a Polish immigrant named Stanislaus Sérafin and it is currently led by third-generation cousins Karin and Frédérique. Produced from 70+ year-old Pinot Noir vines, this Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin was matured in 100% new oak for 18 months.
93 Vinous
Full medium ruby. Superripe aromas of roasted red fruits, black cherry, animal fur and coffee; complex and noble. Then dense and sweet, but also sappy, shapely and penetrating, with compelling depth of fruit and subtle use of oak. Very long, smoky finish combines a firm tannic structure with terrific sweetness of flavor. This will drink early and late.
17.5 Jancis Robinson
Well integrated nose with quite a bit of evolution though rather more harsh acidity than the 2002. Still masses of tannin – not quite as mellifluous as the 2002. (JR)
