Domaine Dujac’s 1999 Charmes-Chambertin is a Grand Cru from one of Gevrey’s most celebrated vineyards, known for its stony marl soils. Crafted by Jean-Marie Dujac in a warm vintage, the wine combines ripe concentration with elegant structure. Aromas of leather, forest floor and tobacco emerge alongside softened tannins and balanced acidity. Earthy and mineral notes speak to the vineyard’s terroir while the wine’s development reflects Dujac’s careful ageing approach.

Good full red. Cassis, black cherry and oak on the nose; seems less vibrant and pure than the Clos Saint-Denis. Then quite perfumed in the mouth, with a flavor of sweet red cherry. This has the volume of a grand cru, and finishes with tannins that spread out to coat the entire palate. I'd have scored it even higher had it shown a bit more verve.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2002

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
