Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious family-run estates, producing wines from several grand cru and premier cru vineyards. Their Charmes-Chambertin cuvée comes from two parcels in the Charmes-Chambertin appellation and a parcel in Mazoyères-Chambertin. The 2020 vintage is drinking well now, but it has the potential to develop even more complexity.

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an oaky and slightly Bretty nose that, at the moment, occludes the terroir profile. The palate is medium-bodied with thickset tannins, quite dense, and broad-shouldered, and it initially lacks the grace and poise of a top Gevrey but improves markedly with aeration. Cyrielle Rousseau conjured some magnificent wines in 2020, but this bottle doesn't entirely pass muster. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin30th October 2024

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up aromas of cherries, red berries, raw cocoa, sweet soil tones and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and nicely concentrated, it's seamless and elegant, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a penetrating finish. It's a terrific follow-up to the excellent 2019.William Kelley20th January 2022
