Arlaud Charmes-Chambertin 2011 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Charmes-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits. The roots of Domaine Arlaud can be traced to 1942 when Renée Amiot from Burgundy and Joseph Arlaud, originally from Ardèche, came together. The current estate encompasses 15 hectares under vine. In 2004, they initiated organic farming practices in the vineyards, leading to their achievement of becoming the first certified biodynamic estate in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2014. This cuvée is sourced from the 1.14-hectare plot in the prestigious Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin. While typically it may not produce wines of the same power and structure as its more illustrious neighbours (most notably Le Chambertin Grand Cru just above it) Charmes-Chambertin is nevertheless noted for Pinot Noirs of striking elegance and perfume, the best of which may age well for 10-20 years.

Dark bright red. Ripe black cherry and musky soil tones are lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy, tight and vibrant, with crunchy black fruit and spice flavors complicated by savory minerality. Broad, dusty tannins really clamp down on the finish of this seriously structured grand cru, but the wine's subtle rising length suggests it will come into harmony with time in bottle.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2014
