Domaine Rossignol-Trapet are an excellent biodynamic producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine flies somewhat under the radar but is producing an array of exceptionally consistent wines renowned for their purity, finesse and longevity. This wine comes from two parcels in Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru – En la Chapelle and Les Gémeaux – which sit just below Clos de Bèze. 2017 was generally considered an excellent vintage with perhaps more early-drinking appeal than 2015 or 2016.

The 2017 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru offers dark berry fruit, cola and allspice on the nose; a faint hint of licorice emerges with time. The palate is quite chewy on the entry, grippy and firm, showing quite a lot of stem addition that makes it initially tricky to assess, although it coheres nicely in the glass. Tough going at the moment, but it will deliver with several years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Neal Martin1st January 2022

Cask sample. Lovely delicacy to the red fruit, layers of cinnamon, allspice and fennel, and a long, leisurely, indulgent length. Precise and luxurious. (RH)Richard Hemming8th January 2019
