Located in Gevrey-Chambertin, Pierre Damoy is an 11-hectare estate which is best known for producing red Burgundy from its grand cru vineyard holdings. The domaine was originally formed by Pierre’s great, great-grandfather, Julien, and it has never been split up. This is his Chapelle-Chambertin from 2005, a superb vintage in Burgundy. A medium-bodied wine, suggesting notes of red berries, sweet spices, liquorice, pine and a touch of mint.

Vinous
Full, deep red-ruby. Blackberry, black raspberry, musky leather, minerals and menthol on the nose. At once silky and lively on entry, then dense but fine-grained in the middle, with dark fruit flavors complicated by smoky earth and leather. A serious step up in volume and extract from the village wine: this one has a real thickness. With much more mid-palate material, the rather fine tannins come across as quite harmonious. Finishes with notes of meat and leather.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2008
