The Dönnhoff Niederhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2008 is a mature single-vineyard Riesling from the `Grand Cru` Hermannshohle in Nahe. The wine presents a complex profile, beginning with aromas of ripe pear, flint and subtle herbal notes. The palate reveals a firm structure, showcasing a balanced interplay of vivid citrus fruit, mineral undertones and hints of crushed slate. Accents of white tea and delicate spice provide depth without overshadowing the wine’s inherent freshness.

- (tasted from a magnum; this cuvée has not been made sinde 2008): Saturated medium red. Stunning nose combines raspberry, strawberry, stone and truffle. Plump, silky and sweet but showing very good energy and shape to its complex, soil-driven flavors of red berries, coffee, mocha, minerals and smoked meat. Finishes supple, saline and long, with warming, fine-grained tannins. This was David Croix's first vintage in charge at Camille Giroud; he arrived in July of 2001 just after receiving his enology degree at the University of Dijon and took over winemaking duties in 2002.
