Chanin Los Alamos Chardonnay 2022 is a single-vineyard wine from the Santa Barbara County region. This Chardonnay displays aromas of green apple, pear and almond, reflecting the cool climate of the Los Alamos vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed directly into French oak barrels, with 20% new oak used for ageing. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and rests on its lees for 10 months, which imparts texture and complexity. Founded by winemaker Eric Chanin, the estate focuses on crafting site-specific wines that showcase unique terroirs in California.
93 Robert Parker
The 2022 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard combines refined tropical power with flashy, radiant aromatics, leading with pineapple rind, oatmeal and citrus peel aromas. The palate is oily and nearly sumptuous before pulling back into a punchy finish that remains clean and chiseled, enriched with caramelized decadence after further aeration. This is a beautifully approachable yet serious entryway into the Chanin roster of vineyard-designate Chardonnays.

The 2022 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is wonderfully expressive right out of the gate. Lemon confit, apricot, white flowers, mint and chamomile all grace this exquisite Chardonnay. The 2022 has a bit more textural richness and phenolic intensity than most years. Even so, this is beguiling. Antonio Galloni1st August 2024
