Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 2006 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Chambolle-Musigny appellation of the Côte de Nuits. A leading producer in Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine Barthod is known for making opulent red wines that are designed to age. The estate is currently made up of approximately six hectares of vineyard, over half of it is split between eight well-sited plots in Chambolle-Musigny. On the 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras. "The 2006 Les Cras is another stellar wine in the making, as it offers up a very deep and serious nose of red and black cherries, red plum, rocky soil tones, coffee, herbs and a pungent topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, reserved and again, very sappy in the mid-palate, with fine-grained tannins, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the complex and hauntingly well-balanced finish. Another simply stellar Chambolle premier cru."

Medium red. Cooler aromas of raspberry, menthol and flowers, plus a hint of cherry pit. Suave on entry, then silky but reticent in the middle palate, with a medicinal reserve to its dark berry flavors. Began rather compact but opened with air to show sweet red fruit flavors and captivating sappy energy. The firm tannins coat the incisors on the very long, vibrant finish. This should gain in flesh with six to eight years of bottle aging.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2009
