Domaine Ghislaine Barthod`s 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Cras has matured gracefully, exemplifying the finesse characteristic of this esteemed producer. The nose offers a bouquet of wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry, accompanied by subtle floral notes. On the palate, it presents a medium to full-bodied profile, with a core of ripe black fruits and a pronounced mineral character, reflecting its high-elevation vineyard origins. The wine`s structure is supported by smooth, mature tannins and balanced acidity, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish. This 2002 vintage remains vibrant, showcasing the remarkable aging potential of Barthod`s wines.

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a warm and generous bouquet with red plum, leather, undergrowth and a light stemmy scent (even though this is actually completely de-stemmed!). The palate is slightly sweeter and more confit-like compared directly with Roumier's Les Cras, displaying fine definition with a detailed, lightly peppered finish. This is drinking beautifully now. Tasted blind at the Roumier Les Cras vertical at Medlar, London and also at La Trompette three months later.
