A leading producer in Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine Barthod is known for making opulent red wines that are designed to age. The estate is currently made up of approximately six hectares of vineyard, over half of it is split between eight well-sited plots in Chambolle-Musigny. The 2001 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Cras is now fully mature, revealing those lovely tertiary notes of tobacco, earth, truffles and a touch of liquorice. The tannins are fully resolved and the finish has a nice grip.
Vinous
The 2001 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru comes across a little volatile on the nose. Whilst the palate feels quite ripe and candied in style, it does not cohere and feels flat on the finish. I do not believe this bottle is representative. Tasted blind at the Roumier Les Cras vertical at Medlar, London.Neal Martin10th November 2022
