Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras Ghislaine Barthod 1999 is a mature red Burgundy from a prized Chambolle lieu-dit. This vintage presents an intricate bouquet of red and dark fruit, particularly raspberry and cherry, alongside subtle earthy notes. The palate reveals a medium-bodied structure with fine-grained tannins and a silky texture. Hints of spice and minerality emerge, characteristic of the Les Cras vineyard. Ghislaine Barthod, a renowned producer in Burgundy, is known for her meticulous vineyard practices and minimal intervention in the winery, allowing the terroir to express itself authentically.

The 1999 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a concentrated bouquet that reflects the vintage: black plum, pressed violets and a touch of sea spray. Leathery notes surface with time. The palate is medium-bodied, the concentration offset by the bead of acidity. It is smooth in texture with a vibrant, quite sorbet-fresh finish. I love the flesh on this Chambolle—excellent. Tasted at David Pope's 1999 Burgundy horizontal at Lorne.
