A leading producer in Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine Barthod is known for making opulent red wines that are designed to age. The estate is currently made up of approximately six hectares of vineyard, over half of it is split between eight well-sited plots in Chambolle-Musigny. This 1999 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Charmes is a robust and quite savoury wine, suggesting notes of cardamom, charcuterie and black olive tapenade.

Vinous
Saturated deep red. Sexy, complex aromas of spicy red berries and minerals; very Chambolle. Packed with sappy, spicy, wonderfully concentrated fruit flavors. In a rather powerful style, but supple and very fresh. Finishes with ripe, fine tannins and excellent persistence. This, too, merits at least six or eight years of aging, and will be best suited for drinking after the 2000.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2002
