Based in Chambolle-Musigny, Hudelot-Baillet is a bit of a hidden gem that has gained a strong reputation over the past few years. Founded in 1981 by Joël Hudelot, the Domaine is currently led by his son-in-law, Dominique Leguen, who had been working at the estate since 1998. This release comes from Les Borniques, one of the lesser-known Premier Cru vineyards within the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. 2020 was a unique vintage in Burgundy, with hot and dry weather conditions, producing wines of exceptional freshness and character.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru is more opulent and shows more new oak on the nose, though it is well-defined, and the wood will be absorbed with time. There's a sense of panache here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and finely chiseled tannins. This is one of the purest Chambolle wines in purity with a lightly spiced, cohesive, sapid finish. The pick from Hudelot-Baillet. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin30th October 2024
