Based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, Robert Groffier is a well-established wine producer run by the same family since the 1950s. The estate consists of approximately 8 hectares of fine vineyards, including 1 hectare in Bonnes-Mares, almost 0.5 hectares in Chambertin-Clos de Bèze and a full 1 hectare in Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Amoureuses’, where this cuvée comes from. The 2005 vintage is a incredibly polished wines, brimming with notes of wild strawberries, black cherries, graphite, spices and some floral accents. Ready to be enjoyed now.
91 Vinous
- Good deep red. Raspberry, game and roast coffee on the nose, with treble notes of ginger and orange rind. Silky, fresh, rich and chewy, with a concentrated flavor of dark raspberry along with a lightly peppery quality. The substantial tannins are ultimately seamless and yet this shows excellent rather than outstanding length. This is very good, but I wonder if this steep parcel experienced a slight blockage of maturity in this warm, dry summer. I would forget about this wine for at least five or six years, maybe longer.
