Established in 1880 and still family owned, Joseph Drouhin is one of the oldest and largest wine producers in Burgundy. This is their Chambolle-Musigny Village 2012, made from hand-harvested, organic Pinot Noir grapes. The wine was aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 20% new. Expect notes of violets, black cherries, damp earth, truffles and game.

Vinous
(mostly from purchased grapes; vinified with about 5% whole clusters): Palish cherry-red. Pungent aromas of candied raspberry, peppermint, pepper, herbs and rose petal, plus a whiff of spearmint. On the lean side but boasts good intensity. Finishes spicy, savory and persistent, with a chewy quality and late notes of herbs and spices. This was to have been bottled at the end of November.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2014
