Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 2005 is a medium-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Aux Beaux Bruns in the Chambolle-Musigny commune of the Côte de Nuits. A prominent producer in Chambolle-Musigny, Ghislaine Barthod is known for making opulent red wines that are designed to age. The domaine is currently made up of approximately six hectares of vineyard, over half of it is split between eight well-sited plots in Chambolle-Musigny Premier Crus. "This is quite densely fruited with a layered nose of red, dark berry and violet aromas liberally sprinkled with ample, and pungent, warm earth notes that can also be found in abundance on the powerful and generous flavours that tighten up considerably on the rather linear and well-focused finish. There is good energy here and the overall character is rather frank and direct though not rustic." Burghound, 2007

Vinous
Saturated ruby-red. Superripe aromas of blackberry, mocha, bitter chocolate and coffee. Rich, sweet, very ripe and opulent, with a velvety texture and just enough lift to support its alcohol (Barthod says that the 2005s here are between 13.2% and 13.5% in bottle). With air, this very ripe wine showed a chocolatey aspect. Finishes with big, slightly tough tannins. This will require at least six or seven years of aging.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2008
