Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé has passed through 20 generations of owners to the present proprietors and is one of the most revered domaines in Burgundy. The 2017 Chambolle-Musginy 1er Cru comes entirely from declassified young vine Musigny and has wonderful aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, cocoa and spice. It is ripe and fleshy with decent fruit concentration, powdery tannins and succulent acidity.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an alluring bouquet of mulberry, hoisin, sage and crushed stone, a subtle meaty element becoming noticeable with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly creamy opening. There is more lushness here compared to the Village Cru, and damson and white pepper emerge toward the finish. Excellent. [Retasting after 10 or 15 minutes, there is much more juiciness on the finish.] Neal Martin1st January 2020

As readers will know, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru consists entirely of declassified young vine Musigny, and the wine naturally bears a certain resemblance to its big brother, unfurling in the glass with aromas of ripe cherries, cassis, dark chocolate and Indian spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a nicely concentrated core of fruit that's still quite primary, having finished its malolactic fermentation only in June/July, framed by chalky underlying tannins and juicy acids.William Kelley31st January 2019
