With headquarters in Meursault, Domaine Leroy was formed in 1988 when Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired the estate of Charles Noëllat in Vosne-Romanée and subsequently Philippe-Rémy’s property in Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, Domaine Leroy owns approximately 23 hectares, including impressive holdings in nine Grands Crus and eight Premier Crus, all farmed biodynamically. This release is from Chambertin, the prestigious Grand Cru vineyard where Domaine Leroy owns a 0.7-hectare plot. The 1997 vintage produced healthy and ripe red wines, with a soft structure.

Red-ruby. Knockout nose combines raspberry, black cherry, iron, coffee, leather and animal fur. Shows a texture of pure silk, but impeccable acidity gives the intense flavors precision and penetration. Combines superbly rich fruit and considerable power: here's the iron fist in the velvet glove. Extremely long finish features noble, suave tannins. This beautifully balanced wine is almost shockingly easy to taste today.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1999

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
